Euroopa Parlamendi as vice president Pina Picierno agreed to end the hunger strike she began on 20 October to draw attention to the humanitarian situation in the Russian-occupied town of Oleshky. The decision followed talks with Dmytro Lubinets, Ukraine's parliamentary commissioner for human rights, about arrangements for a local ceasefire, humanitarian aid delivery and civilian evacuation. The Ukrainian and Russian general staffs announced a ceasefire regime from 03:00 on 27 October, while US officials said it was expected to start on 29 October.
