Miks see on oluline

The record weekly revenue shows the short-term financial scale of Russia’s seaborne oil trade despite sanctions and the war against Ukraine. The latest increase was driven by higher tanker loadings and rising ESPO prices, which offset lower Urals prices, while the four-week average fell to its lowest level in five weeks. The absence of reported refinery strikes may allow Russia to process more oil and potentially reduce the volume available for export in coming weeks.

Mis juhtus

During the week ending 25 October, 37 tankers loaded 26.93 million barrels of Russian crude oil, compared with 31 tankers and 21.87 million barrels the previous week. The value of Russia’s seaborne oil exports reached $2.76 billion, approximately $430 million higher than the preceding week. Loadings from Primorsk resumed after a several-day interruption, and 12 tankers departed a terminal near Saint Petersburg, compared with four a week earlier.

The higher weekly volume lifted average daily shipments to 3.85 million barrels, while the four-week average fell by 30,000 barrels per day to 3.55 million barrels. Higher ESPO prices and increased shipments compensated for lower Urals prices. No strikes on Russian oil refineries were reported in the preceding seven days, allowing refineries to increase processing and potentially divert oil that might otherwise have been exported.

Ukrainian coverage emphasizes that Russia earned record revenue from seaborne oil exports despite the full-scale war against Ukraine. It also highlights the divergence between the record weekly revenue and declining four-week average export volumes, linking the temporary absence of refinery attacks to Russia’s increased processing capacity.

International coverage focuses on export value, tanker movements, shipment volumes and China and India as the leading Asian buyers of Russian oil. Rising ESPO prices and larger shipments offset lower Urals prices, while the record revenue coincided with resumed tanker loadings and no reported refinery strikes.

Taust

Loadings from Primorsk had resumed after a several-day interruption in tanker movements. Similar earlier interruptions were associated with maintenance of a port or the oil pipeline it supplied. On 17 October, Donald Trump suspended the “hell sanctions against Russia” law, which had allowed tariffs against countries purchasing Russian energy resources. On 9 October, he said he had reached an agreement with Vladimir Putin on Russian diesel deliveries to the American and global markets, partly to reduce diesel prices. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said another reason was to encourage the Kremlin to end the war against Ukraine.
